- Adam Carter
- (Played by Rupert Penry-Jones)
- An enigmatic natural performer, Adam Carter is in his perfect job. After years in MI-5 he has confronted his demons and become a ruthless pragmatist. He has the power to push himself and his colleagues to the edge to get the job done - then pick up the pieces.
Rupert has also appeared in Persuasion and Match Point.
- Harry Pearce
- (Played by Peter Firth)
- Harry's calm and confident and can usually make the toughest of decisions without showing a flicker of doubt. His one Achilles heel is his reaction to Irish terrorists. He served in Northern Ireland during his army career and suffered a trauma he finds impossible to forgive.
Peter has also appeared in The Battle For Rome.
- Fiona Carter
- (Played by Olga Sosnovska)
- Fiona's chameleon quality makes her a great spy. She is intensely loyal to both her family, her colleague and husband Adam, and workmates, but she's torn between motherhood and espionage.
Olga has also appeared in Heroes, Ocean's Thirteen, and All My Children.
- Zafar Younis
- (Played by Raza Jaffrey)
- Zaf can be a bit of a show-off, but he's always optimistic and full of ideas. He doesn't tolerate slackers, which is why he gets on so well with Adam. He is from a Muslim background, but he isn't particularly devout, and he despises those who use their religion as an excuse in any way.
Raza has also appeared in Mistresses and Eastern Promises.
- Juliet Shaw
- (Played by Anna Chancellor)
- Juliet rose very fast as a spy. She took a posting in Washington where she built up excellent contacts with the CIA. Harry calls her a ruthless right-wing crazy who'd stop at nothing, but her acid-tongue and take-no-prisoners manner is actually quite attractive.
Anna has also appeared in My Family and Law & Order: UK.
- Ruth Evershed
- (Played by Nicola Walker)
- Ruth always longed to get a taste of the MI5 life and she is determined to be a success. She is enthusiastic, dedicated, and an invaluable member of the team. She finds the facts the team needs, and her research always hits the spot. Ruth is brilliant, but she's also completely bananas.
Ruth has also appeared in Oliver Twist and Touching Evil.
