Sir Ian McKellen and Orlando Bloom Have a 'LOTR' Reunion in London
Orlando Bloom shared a picture on Instagram on Monday (August 13) to mark a very special occasion: a reunion with his Lord of the Rings co-star Sir Ian McKellen.
The two actors are currently both treading the boards in London's West End, with Orlando taking the lead role in Killer Joe, a play that was made into a film starring Matthew McConaughey in 2011, and Sir Ian braving the storm in King Lear. (The injury that forced him to miss a matinee performance last week was thankfully not serious.)
Their theaters are a stone's throw away from each other, so it didn't take much for the Sir Ian, aka. Gandalf the Grey, to pay his erstwhile elf friend Legolas a visit.
Actor Adam Brown, who played Ori in The Hobbit trilogy, was also there, leading Orlando to caption his photo with the start of a joke: "A dwarf, a wizard and an elf walk into a bar…"
It wasn't the first time a LOTR co-star has visited Orlando during his run. Liv Tyler, who played Arwen Undómiel in the the movie trilogy, popped backstage after watching the play earlier this month.
Killer Joe comes to an end next week, after which Orlando will return to the fantasy world with new show Carnival Row. Sir Ian, on the other hand, will be at a loose end after King Lear finishes its run in November, having just wrapped cat-and-mouse thriller The Good Liar with Dame Helen Mirren.
Meanwhile, the new TV series of J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece will soon be looking to cast their Legolas and Gandalf. Just sayin'.
Are you glad to see Sir Ian and Orlando together again?
