10 Christmas-y Movies Starring Anglo Favorites

It's that time of year, when sentimental British Christmas commercials start popping up. And while we're all mostly at home, if you do venture out, the stores are filled with jolly Christmas songs, to match.
If that's not enough to remind you that the holiday is approaching, BBC America's sister channel, AMC, is airing holiday classics all month long as part of the annual Best Christmas Ever celebration.
We'd like to join in the festive fun, and have compiled a list of Christmas-y movies starring some all-time Anglo favorites:
1. Love Actually
Love Actually is jam-packed with Anglo favorites, like Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, and Andrew Lincoln (just to name a handful). It follows multiple storylines that eventually overlap, all taking part during the holiday season. It's one of those movies you can watch over and over and pick up something new each time.
You can find Love Actually over at AMC.com.
2. The Holiday
The holidaze can be hard for some people, especially when going through a breakup, as seen in 2006's The Holiday. Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz star as career women, who are both broken-hearted. Rather than sitting at home and wallowing... they agree to swap houses. A little travel can help shake things up a bit and create some change. At the least, helping you get away from the bad juju.
3. About a Boy
Hugh Grant is going through a sort of resurgence. But, remember back in the day, when he played a self-serving bachelor in 2002's About a Boy? Grant's character, Will Freeman, accidentally befriends a boy (Nicholas Hoult) and implies he's his son, when flirting with a woman. In one scene, Grant joins the boy and his mother for Christmas, and it reminds us that "family" doesn't have to mean blood relatives.
4. Nanny McPhee
2005's Nanny McPhee revolves around a widower (Colin Firth) who struggles to raise his young children. That's where the magical Nanny McPhee comes in, played by Emma Thompson. She helps teach the young children what's appropriate, and also teaches the father how to be appreciative. While this may not be a Christmas-Christmas movie, it is indeed whimsical and stirs up those festive, warm fuzzy feelings.
You can find Nanny McPhee over at AMC.com.
5. The Muppet Christmas Carol
We all know the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, who's visited by three ghosts, Past, Present and Future on Christmas Eve, to help him come to terms with some hard truths. In 1992, Jim Henson presented his version with The Muppet Christmas Carol, starring Michael Caine as the ol' miser. Caine is joined by Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and The Great Gonzo in the retelling of this classic story.
6. Arthur Christmas
You can't get much more Christmas-y than a story about a character whose last name is Christmas. Santa's son, Arthur Christmas (voiced by James McAvoy) teams up with his granddad (Bill Nighy) to find a misplaced present. And, they only have two hours to do so. It wouldn't seem like a complete list without an animated movie—and remember they aren't just for kids!
7. Ella Enchanted
Ella Enchanted is another movie that may not hit you over the head with Christmas vibes. But, it's topped-up with magic, which is what the North Pole runs on. We meet Ella as a baby, who is bestowed a gift of obedience by a fairy godmother. But it's more of a curse, as Ella (Anne Hathaway) is compelled to do everything that is asked of her. You can look for Joanna Lumley as Ella's icky stepmother.
You can find Ella Enchanted over at AMC.com.
8. Get Santa
In 2014's Get Santa, Santa (Jim Broadbent) is arrested and Christmas is put in jeopardy. A father (Rafe Spall) and son (Kit Connor) work to rescue him from the prison system, and save Christmas Day from being called off. They call on a friend to help out, played by Warwick Davis. Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker pops up as mum to the little boy trying to save Christmas.
9. The Man Who Invented Christmas
We mentioned Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol above in item No. five, and he's back again. Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens portrays Dickens in the 2017 biopic The Man Who Invented Christmas. The movie dives into how he came to write the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. Dickens may not be able to take all of the credit, but he did help remind people not to be so curmudgeonly.
10. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
In 2005, we saw Freddie Highmore take on the title role in the movie adaptation of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Charlie happens upon a winning ticket, that grants him access to candy maker Willy Wonka's (Johnny Depp) grand factory. Charlie invites his grandpa as his chaperone and the two go on a whirlwind adventure. Again, not quite Christmas, but lots and lots and lots of candy.

Some of these might be good all year. Which films would you add to the list!?
