Taron Egerton returns this week in Tetris, a biographical movie about the making of the iconic video game. It's always fun to check in with the Golden Globe-winning Welsh actor, so we're taking a look back at seven times he totally charmed us.
1. The time Graham Norton made him blush a little.
When Egerton appeared on The Graham Norton Show shortly before Rocketman came out, the actor's friendship with Elton John was definitely a talking point. Egerton reveals that the legendary musician gave him a sweet gift during shooting, which gives Norton a window to deliver one of his signature double entendres. Warning: you might just spit out your coffee.
2. The time he showed off his singing voice.
By now, thanks to Rocketman and the Sing movies, we all know that Egerton can really hold a tune. But in this U.K. radio interview from 2017, he shows off his vocal range by singing snippets of Britney Spears, Sam Smith, and David Bowie hits. He even busts out a few dance moves along the way.
3. The time he shared his unusual drag name: Blodwyn Camper Van.
Egerton was given this distinctive nickname by none other than Elton John. On the one hand, it's a nod to Egerton's Welsh heritage – Blodwyn is a traditional Welsh name meaning "white flower." And on another, it's a reference to the fact that he quite literally owns a Camper Van (RV). Egerton explained all during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
4. The time he shared an adorable holiday photo.
Egerton is fun to follow on Instagram because his posts are unpretentious and very down-to-earth. On Christmas Eve of last year, he posted this lovely photo of him in the kitchen with his uncle Bill, back home in Aberystwyth, Wales. If you want to give him a follow, he's @taron.egerton.
5. The time he admitted he got caught stealing at Elton John's house.
Well, not stealing exactly, so much as sneakily raiding the larder when he got the tipsy munchies. Egerton shared the funny story – and Elton's reaction when he found out – during another of his charming visits to The Graham Norton Show.
6. The time he read a beautiful love letter.
Letters Live is a semi-regular event series where actors and other prominent folks read literary letters to the audience; in the past, the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Colman, and Sharon Horgan have all taken part. Egerton participated in a 2021 event at London's Union Chapel, where he read a love letter sent by Yorkshire farmer Simon Fallowfield to his crush Mary Foster. It's a super-cute moment.
7. And finally, the time he drank bourbon with Pedro Pascal.
Egerton and the star of The Last of Us appeared together in 2017's Kingsman: The Golden Circle. And when they were paired on the promo circuit, their playful banter was just as much fun as you'd expect. Let's hope they get the chance to share the screen again soon.
