The last thing you want to do during long summer evenings is go into a dark theater, so it's important to know the film you're about to see is good. Below are 10 upcoming movies we think will be worth the sacrifice.

1. Ocean's 8 (June 8)

This female riff on the popular Ocean's 11 franchise stars some of our favorite actors, including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling and Anne Hathaway. Even James Corden and Rihanna put in an appearance in what looks set to be a fun and twisty heist flick.

2. Hereditary (June 8)

This supernatural horror has been compared to The Exorcist, with Toni Collette taking on an unforgettable, no-holds-barred leading role. In fact, we predict her performance will get more than a few nods come awards season. Gabriel Byrne and Ann Dowd also star.

3. The Incredibles 2 (June 15)

The Incredibles are back, with Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) facing his greatest challenge yet: looking after three children on his own, when wife Helen (Holly Hunter), aka Elastigirl, is chosen for a special mission. The sequel comes a full 14 years after the first movie, which was a huge box office hit well before the current superhero craze really got going.

4. Under the Silver Lake (June 22)

If horror flick It Follows creeped you out, then prepare to be more than a little disturbed by this latest film by the same director. A modern-day noir set in L.A., it stars Andrew Garfield as an obsessive who goes down the rabbit hole in search of a missing neighbor (Riley Keogh).

5. Sorry to Bother You (July 6)

Boots Riley's first feature has been compared to last year's Get Out: it's a comedy satirizing race relations, for one, and stars Lakeith Stanfield. But such comparisons ignore the film's razor-sharp script and hilarious premise: that to get ahead as a telemarketer, Cassius Green (Stanfield) should "use his white voice."

6. Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6)

Wait, so you thought Marvel would release Avengers: Infinity War and then sit the summer out? No chance. Paul Rudd returns as the shrinking superhero in this sequel to 2015's Ant-Man, and this time he's got a partner in (fighting)-crime: Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne, aka The Wasp.

7. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (July 20)

They're all back, and this time they've brought Cher. This follow-up to 2008's Greek sun-infused ABBA musical goes back in time, when Donna (Meryl Streep) first met Bill (Stellen Skarsgård), Harry (Colin Firth), and Sam (Pierce Brosnan), the three suitors in the running for being the father of her daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried). Sophie is pregnant now, having married beau Sky (Dominic Cooper) in Movie Number One, and seeking advice on how to have it all like her mom. Just try and stop singing along.

8. Mission: Impossible - Fallout (July 27)

"Fallout" seems like an unfortunate subtitle for this sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, considering the precarious way Ethan Hawke (Tom Cruise) is hanging out of that helicopter. It's another one of his famous stunts, of course, though all eyes will be on Henry Cavill's top lip, after his mustache caused so much extra work for the CGI artists working on Justice League. Oh, and Rebecca Ferguson and Simon Pegg are back too. If nothing else, it's bound to be fun.

9. Christopher Robin (August 3)

You wait an age for a film about Christopher Robin, and two come along at once. After last year's Goodbye Christopher Robin starring Domhnall Gleeson focussed on the early years of A.A. Milne's son, this Disney offering stars Ewan McGregor as an older Christopher who's forgotten his childhood teddy bear. And yes, that's Jim Cummings you can hear, one of the voices for the cartoon Winnie the Pooh.

10. The Little Stranger (August 31)

We don't yet know much about this film, except that it's based on Sarah Waters's extraordinarily compelling 2009 gothic novel of the same name, and stars Domhnall Gleeson, as well as Luther's Ruth Wilson, Broadchurch's Charlotte Rampling, and Detroit and Maze Runner's Will Poulter. That's enough to have us excited, though.
