It's a new year and a new start. With that said, there's new programming premiering in the next few months. It may take a minute to get your footing, heading into 2022, which is where this roundup of TV series comes into play.
You don't have to do it alone, with these characters (some new, some returning) to keep you company:
1. Around the World in 80 Days
Anything with David Tennant in it is a go-to for us. But, him starring in a period drama, based on Jules Verne's classic story, is a must-see. The Doctor Who star is set to portray Phileas Fogg, an upper class Londoner, who is challenged by his peers to circumnavigate the world in 80 days. It’s not just for fun — there’s £20,000 at stake.
You can look for the eight-part series over at PBS beginning January 2.
2. A Discovery of Witches
AMC's A Discovery of Witches returns on January 8, heading into its third season. In the first season, we saw the burgeoning relationship between a vampire (Matthew Goode) and a witch (Teresa Palmer). In season two, they time traveled back to the year 1590. In the third and final season, we'll find out the fate of this forbidden love, between two supernatural creatures.
The seven-part series is set to premiere on AMC, Sundance and AMC+.
3. The Gilded Age
Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes has a whole batch of new characters to get to know in his drama The Gilded Age. Set in 1880s NYC, the story revolves around two families who go head-to-head, battling over sticking to the old ways vs. embracing the modern age. Cynthia Nixon stars as a traditional aunt, watching out for her niece (Louisa Jacobson), who is new to the city.
You can look for the ten-part series over at HBO on January 24.
4. The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window
If you're a fan of The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl and The Woman in the Window movies, The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window may be for you. Kristen Bell stars as a heartbroken woman, who sits home alone, staring out the window, thinking about what went wrong. It's meant to be a spoof, but it looks substantially entertaining on its own.
The seven-part series is heading to Netflix, premiering on January 28.
5. Pam & Tommy
Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee's tumultuous relationship, which was told through tabloid headlines in the 1990s, may not scream Anglophile, but it does star British actress Lily James, which is a reason to check it out. James stars opposite Sebastian Stan as Lee. The two definitely make these real-life characters their own, adding to the retelling of this story.
The seven-part series will be available for streaming via Hulu on February 2.
6. Raised by Wolves
Director Ridley Scott is at it again, bringing a sci-fi series to screen. Raised by Wolves revolves around two androids tasked with raising human children. The series is set on a planet called Kepler-22, as Earth has been destroyed. The androids are programmed to protect the children. In the second season, we see that androids can also evolve.
The eight-part series is heading to HBO Max on February 3.
7. Inventing Anna
Julia Garner is set to portray real-life con artist Anna Delvey in Inventing Anna. Delvey is described as a Russian heiress, who when arriving to New York City, stole the hearts of those around her... and their money. The series revolves around Delvey’s charming yet calculating ways, and the journalist (Anna Chlumsky) who suspects her to be a fake.
You can look for the ten-part series over at Netflix on February 11.
8. Space Force
Steve Carell's Space Force is getting a second season, with Carell returning as Captain Naird. He heads the newly created government branch Space Force, with their goal being to perform "space-related tasks." In season two, Naird and his team are reporting to a new administration and still trying to figure out exactly what they are doing. It's part sci-fi, part workplace comedy.
The seven-part series is set to premiere on February 8 via Netflix.
9. Killing Eve
BBC America's Killing Eve is back for its fourth and final season. And, we are beyond excited. We have been missing Eve (Sandra Oh) and Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and their antics (putting it lightly). And we are on the edge of our seats to see where this next installment will take them. The storyline is being kept tightly wrapped, so we shall have to wait and see.
You can look for the eight-part series on February 27 on BBC America.
10. The Sandman
Neil Gaiman's The Sandman is being made into a TV adaptation. The Sandman, who also goes by Dream (Tom Sturridge), has been held captive for decades. He's now found his freedom and he's ready to catch up on lost time. We can also look for Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess, who is attempting to capture Death. Instead, he and his society, summon Dream.
The ten-part episode (plus one) is heading to Netflix in April.
