Today marks the first official day of summer (June 21). The impending rise in temperature, 90 degree weather and up, can make anyone anxious. And what better way to seek relief than to dip into a nice air-conditioned movie theater. Even better, indulge in a thriller to take your mind off the outdoors.
These 11 chilling stories are a sure way to beat the heat:
1. Nightmare Cinema (June 21)

Nightmare Cinema hits theaters on June 21. Five strangers are brought together at a movie theater, where they watch screenings of their darkest fears. Watching this movie, in a theater, is like a play within a play... let's just hope the story doesn't hop off the screen!? Mickey Rourke stars as the projectionist and owner of the theater, acting as host to the moviegoers.
2. Child's Play (June 21)
The Child's Play franchise is going A.I. with the new doll being robotic. Arriving to theaters on June 21, Star Wars' Mark Hamill provides the voice for Chucky. In the 1988 original, Chucky is possessed by a demon, using the doll to execute his evil intent. This time around, there’s no demon and in fact the doll is digital. Its programming has been hacked, increasing his ability to learn and… wreak havoc.

Gary Oldman leads an ensemble cast in Killers Anonymous, releasing on June 28. Like alcoholics anonymous, KA is a support group for killers. They sit in a circle and swap stories. Killers have feelings, too. Like the priest who runs the group says, "We're all here, because we're not all there." We can also look for Jessica Alba, Suki Waterhouse, MyAnna Buring and Sadie Frost.
4. Midsommar (July 2)

Florence Pugh (AMC's Little Drummer Girl) stars in Midsummar, hitting theaters on July 2. She joins her boyfriend (Jack Reynor) and his pals on a trip to Sweden. They come across a village hosting a mid-summer festival, that consists of ceremonies and dressing up. There's even a Maypole. But things turn a little suspect when she and her friends are offered a "special drink." Things get even more weird when they can't leave.
5. Cold Blood (July 5)
The Professional's Jean Reno is back for Cold Blood, which you can look for on July 5. He plays a hit man living on the edge of a lake, completely isolated. That's until he comes across an injured woman (Sarah Lind), stranded in the snow. He takes her back to his cabin to nurse her back to health. His job is to kill people, not fix them.
6. She's Just a Shadow (July 16)

She's Just a Shadow, in theaters on July 16, revolves around a madame and her employees. The madame narrates the trailer, saying, "It's kind of confusing how I took over the black market and sex trade of the whole city." While she has a business to run, there's a serial killer on the loose in this "modern dreamlike thriller." The film stars Tao Okamato (Westworld), Haruka Abe (Dead Unicorns) and pop star Kihiro.
7. Into the Ashes (July 19)

Luke Grimes plays a reformed criminal in the new film Into the Ashes, in theaters on July 19. He's now happily married and working a regular job. That's all well and good, but he stole money from his former crew, and they're not going to just let him walk away. Let's just say, they're still criminals.
8. Annabelle Comes Home (July 26)

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return for the Annabelle sequel, Annabelle Comes Home, releasing on July 26. The married couple realizes the doll is possessed and in an attempt to protect the public they lock the doll away. Their daughter missed the memo and brings her babysitter and her friend into the artifacts room to show off. The daughter points out, "Annabelle is in a case for a reason."
9. Coyote Lake (August 2)

Coyote Lake hits theaters on August 2. The story revolves around a mother (Adriana Barraza) and daughter (Camila Mendes) duo, who run a bed and breakfast together. Some of their guests are drug runners and human traffickers. Rather than calling the authorities, the women take matters into their own hands. They drug and drown their unseemly guests, robbing them of their belongings. This is bound to catch up with them.
10. The Nightingale (August 2)

IFC Film's The Nightingale arrives to theaters on August 2. The period drama, set in 1825, follows a young Irish woman (Aisling Franciosi) on the hunt for a British soldier (Sam Claflin) who terrorized her family. She has the help of an Aboriginal man (Baykali Ganambarr), guiding her through the Tasmanian wildlife.

Ready or Not hits theaters on August 23. Samara Weaving (The Babysitter) plays a young woman by the name of Grace and it's her wedding night. As part of the celebration, Grace's new in-laws suggest they play a game of hide and seek. The family believes they need to sacrifice the new bride to stave off a curse. They could just slit her throat and call it a night, but they make a game out of it.
