Sharon D. Clarke is perhaps most associated with her stage work, for which she's earned three Olivier Awards and a Tony nomination. But, the British actress has also appeared frequently on TV, and adds a touch of class to any project she takes on. She has a supporting role in the intriguing crime series Showtrial, premiering this week on Sundance Now, so we're taking a look at some of her small screen highlights.
1. Holby City (2005-2008)
Clarke became a fan favorite during her three-year stint on the BBC's long-running medical series. She plays Lola Griffin, a high-ranking doctor who's strong but sympathetic, making her popular with her colleagues. The writers sometimes gave Clarke an opportunity to show off her fabulous singing voice: you can check out her powerful rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" below.

2. Death in Paradise (2015)
Clarke guest stars in the series four episode "A Stab in the Dark." She plays Zeta Akande, the medium who leads a séance during the island of Saint Marie's Fete Mouri festival. While the séance is taking place, a prominent local man is murdered, leading some islanders to theorize that the ritual roused an evil spirit. However, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) is convinced there must be a more logical explanation.

3. Numberblocks (2017-2021)
If you have a preschooler in your life, you may know Clarke as the voice of Number 100 in this popular CBeebies educational series. It's not Clarke's only gig on CBeebies, the BBC's preschool programming strand. She also portrays Gran in Waffle the Wonder Dog and narrates a series called Tiny Wonders

4. Doctor Who (2018-2021)
Clarke appears in five episodes as Grace O'Brien, a nurse who's the wife of Bradley Walsh's companion Graham. Interestingly, Clarke's character is only alive in her first episode because her character meets a shocking fate at the end of "The Woman Who Fell to Earth." In a later episode, "It Takes You Away," the villainous Solitract takes Grace's form in an attempt to trick Graham, giving Clarke a chance to really show her range.

5. Informer (2018)
Clarke has a key supporting role in this BBC crime drama available in the U.S. on Amazon Prime. She plays DCI Rose Asante, the shrewd and committed boss of Paddy Considine's counterterrorism officer DS Gabe Waters. Asante's methods are sometimes questionable, but she always believes, firmly, that she is doing the right thing.

6. La Fortuna (2021)
This AMC+ miniseries stars Stanley Tucci and Clarke Peters as former friends fighting over treasure that's been buried underwater for two centuries. Clarke appears in three episodes as Maggie, who's very much on the side of Peters' character, Jonas Pierce, a lawyer working to reclaim the haul from Tucci's treasure hunter on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Culture.

7. Showtrial (2022)
Launching Thursday (July 21) on Sundance Now, this five-part crime drama follows a murder case played out in the court of public opinion. When a student from a tough background goes missing, entitled entrepreneur's daughter Talitha (Céline Buckens) becomes the prime suspect and a tabloid target. Clarke plays Virginia Hoult, a high-ranking official at the U.K.'s Crime Prosecution Service who's aware just how sensitive the situation is.

Do you have a role you'd like to add to the list!?
