7 Times Tom Holland Was The Most Charming and Hilarious on ‘The Graham Norton Show’
Tom Holland returns to The Graham Norton Show this week alongside Zendaya, his co-star in Spider-Man: Far from Home. To whet your appetite, we’re taking a look back at all the times he was a gold star guest on the show. Who says superhero actors can’t also be super self-deprecating?
1. The time he showed off his Planet of the Apes moves.
In fairness, Holland doesn't unleash his inner simian unprompted. He does so at the behest of fellow guest Andy Serkis, who plays ape leader Caesar in the franchise. After Serkis demonstrates how to move like a monkey, Holland gamely has a go at imitating him even though he's wearing a very un-apelike fitted suit. Never let it be said that Tom Holland shirks a challenge.
2. The time he recalled auditioning for Andy Serkis.
During the same episode, Holland recalls auditioning for Serkis and being asked to act like a wolf. Sadly, because Serkis really put him on the spot, he wasn't quite sure how to carry off this request…
3. The time he explained how his dad stops him from becoming big-headed.
During a rather serious discussion with Gwyneth Paltrow and Tom Hanks about the corruptive nature of fame, Holland just can't resist lightening the mood. Still, it sounds as though his dad Dominic Holland – a comedian who worked with Graham Norton on a TV panel show in the late ‘90s – has done a good job of keeping his son's feet on the ground.
4. The time he sort of dissed British clothing chain Marks and Spencer.
This clip is too adorable. It begins with photos of Holland as a Spidey-loving kid, before he explains why his Spider-Man suit doesn't quite stack up next to outfits worn by the other Avengers. Luckily, fast-thinking Graham Norton saves the day.
5. The time he remembered ditching Madonna on the dance floor.
In Holland’s defense, he ran away from the Queen of Pop out of sheer embarrassment, as he explains hilariously in this clip. Still, when Norton says he "prays she never sees this," it’s tough not to agree!
6. The time he discussed the, um, practicalities of his Spider-Man costume.
We can always count on Holland to keep it real. Yes, playing Spider-Man is an exciting and high-profile job, but that doesn’t mean his personal comfort is always top priority on set.
7. The time he recalled being accidentally insulted by a taxi driver.
On the one hand, the driver who took Holland to his Spider-Man auditions was just trying to be encouraging. But on the other hand, he could maybe have phrased things a little more delicately. This clip is from the latest episode of The Graham Norton Show, which airs tonight (December 10) at 11pm EST on BBC America.
