'A Discovery of Witches': Where Else Have You Seen the Cast?

A Discovery of Witches premieres this Sunday at 9/8c on BBC America and AMC, welcoming viewers into a world where "witches, vampires, and daemons secretly live and work alongside humans, hidden in plain sight." This supernatural drama features a very familiar cast, with faces you'll definitely recognize from Doctor Who to Downton Abbey, and Black Mirror to Sherlock. Here's a handy guide to where you've seen this starry lot before.

Matthew Goode

Goode, who plays vampire and Biochemistry Professor Matthew Clairmont in the show, could be one of the U.K.'s most prolific actors. He's probably best known for two recent costume drama roles: Princess Margaret's husband Antony Armstrong-Jones in The Crown and Lady Mary's love interest Henry Talbot in Downton Abbey. But he's also played state prosecutor Finn Polmar in U.S. legal drama The Good Wife and popped up in movies including The Imitation Game, A Single Man, and Watchmen. He and The Americans actor Matthew Rhys even teamed up for the playful U.K. drink series The Wine Show!

Alex Kingston

Yes, Doctor Who's very own River Song appears in A Discovery of Witches as Diana's aunt, Sarah Bishop! Kingston probably needs no introduction, but outside of Doctor Who she's well known for playing Dr. Elizabeth Corday on E.R. and appearing in everything from U.S. superhero series Arrow to U.K. costume drama Upstairs Downstairs. At the moment, she's treading the boards in London's West End in the acclaimed play Admissions.

Teresa Palmer

Australian actress Palmer co-stars opposite Goode as alchemy and science student (and witch!) Diana Bishop. Palmer started her career in Australia productions before pivoting to Hollywood, where she's played an impressive array of lead and supporting roles. She co-starred opposite Nicholas Hoult in zombie comedy flick Warm Bodies and led the hit 2016 horror movie Lights Out. She also had a key supporting role in Mel Gibson's war drama Hacksaw Ridge, for which she earned an AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts) nomination.

Louise Brealey

Brealey, who plays witch and academic Gillian Chamberlain on A Discovery..., is best known for her Sherlock role as Molly Hooper, a registrar at St Bartholomew's Hospital. She's also appeared in the popular British TV dramas Ripper Street and Inspector George Gently, as well as Amazon Prime's just-released mini-series The Widow, in which one of her co-stars is none other than Alex Kingston!

Edward Bluemel

Killing Eve fans will recognize Bluemel, who plays the vampire son of Matthew Goode's character on A Discovery..., as super-entitled and disrespectful MI6 agent Hugo who works alongside Sandra Oh's Eve in Season 2. The young British actor, 25, also has a recurring role in Netflix hit Sex Education and appeared briefly in season two of The Crown as a young man at a barracks.

Owen Teale

This Welsh actor plays high-ranking witch Peter Knox in A Discovery..., but will definitely be familiar to Game of Thrones fans as Ser Alliser Thorne. Teale actually made his TV debut in the 1985 Doctor Who adventure 'Vengeance on Varos', and more than 20 years later appeared in the Torchwood episode 'Countrycide'. He's an acclaimed stage actor, too, winning a Tony Award in 1997 for his performance as Torvald Helmer in A Doll's House.

Aiysha Hart

Rising star Hart portrays vampire Miriam Shephard in A Discovery..., but you may also recognize her from Line of Duty, Keira Knightley-led costume drama Colette, and BBC America's fantasy drama Atlantisin which she played Ariadne. Next year we'll see her co-starring opposite Riz Ahhmed in the film Mughal Mowgli.

Trevor Eve

He starred as Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd in all nine seasons of British crime procedural Waking the Dead, and has appeared in everything from crime thriller Lawless to costume drama Death Comes to Pemberley. He's also the father of Star Trek into Darkness actress Alice Eve.

Lindsay Duncan

Tony and Olivier Award winner Duncan appears in A Discovery... as Ysabeau de Clermont, the mother of Goode's character. Doctor Who fans will know her as Adelaide Brook from the excellent 2009 special 'The Waters of Mars.' One of Britain's most respected actresses, she's appeared in everything from Absolutely Fabulous to Black Mirror, and portrays Lady Smallwood in Sherlock. Le Week-End, an excellent 2013 indie film in which she stars opposite Jim Broadbent, is definitely worth seeking out.
