The iconic British sitcom Peep Show came to an end in 2015, but it's now set to return in the form of a loose U.S. remake.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy-nominated screenwriter Stefani Robinson (What We Do in the Shadows, Atlanta) is scripting an "update" that will center on the relationship between a "long-suffering assistant" and her boss, who is described as "an emotionally unstable tech entrepreneur."

This is a significant switch-up from the original British series, which followed the somewhat chaotic lives of dysfuctional South London roommates Mark (David Mitchell) and Jez Usbourne (Robert Webb). It ran for nine seasons from 2003 to 2015 and helped to elevate the career of Olivia Colman, who had a key supporting role as Sophie, Mark's co-worker and eventual wife.

Peep Show was co-created and written by Jesse Armstrong, who went on to create Succession, and Sam Bain. Both will serve as executive producers on the update, which is in the works at FX. Remarkably, this isn't the first attempt to remake Peep Show in the U.S., but the fifth. None of the other attempts has made it to air.

Back in 2021, original Peep Show stars Mitchell and Webb said they'd like to bring back the show when they're "really old." In the meantime, you can catch Webb in the latest season of cozy detective series Whitstable Pearl, which has just premiered on Acorn TV.
