Gavin & Stacey actress Alison Steadman has shared her thoughts on the show's future, admitting that she isn't feeling confident about further episodes.
Asked about the hit sitcom returning, Steadman told the Radio Times: "I wouldn’t know. Honestly, it’s the truth. I doubt it’ll go again but that’s what I said in the nine-year gap and I was wrong."
As Steadman noted, Gavin & Stacey returned after a nine-year hiatus in 2019 for a one-off Christmas special. The episode, which ended on a major cliffhanger, was watched in the U.K. by 18.5 million viewers. According to the BBC, this makes it the biggest BBC TV program outside of sporting and national events since records began in 2002.
Because of the show's popularity and the special's cliffhanger ending, fans have been wondering ever since whether co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones could be tempted to bring it back again. Speaking last May, Corden said he thinks "it would be a shame" to leave Gavin & Stacey on the cliffhanger, adding: "And I think Ruth feels the same."
While we await further news, why not relive some of Steadman's best bits as Essex matriarch Pam Shipman? Just be aware that this video does contain a little bit of salty language.
