Anglo faves Andrew Garfield, Kate Winslet, and Kenneth Branagh are among the actors celebrating Golden Globes wins today (January 10).
Garfield was named Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy film for his performance in Tick, Tick… Boom!, while Winslet won the Best Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series of Film Made for TV for Mare of Easttown. 
Branagh won the Best Screenplay prize for Belfast, but he lost out on the Best Director award to The Power of the Dog’s Jane Campion. The Power of the Dog was named Best Motion Picture, Drama and West Side Story won Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. 
Will Smith (King Richard) and Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos) won the prizes for Best Actor and Best Actress in a Drama Film, cementing their place as Oscar frontrunners. The supporting actor and actress awards went to Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog) and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story). DeBose’s West Side Story co-star Rachel Zegler was named Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Film. 
In the TV categories, Succession was named Best Television Series, Drama and two of its stars, Jeremy Strong and Sarah Snook, collected acting awards. Pose's Michaela Jaé Rodriguez made history by becoming the first trans performer ever to win a Golden Globe, for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis, Squid Game’s O Yeong-su, Dopesick's Michael Keaton, and Hacks' Jean Smart also won acting accolades. 
This year's Golden Globe Awards was a private ceremony that was neither televised nor streamed online. This low-key approach reflects the fact that event organizers the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) were widely criticized last year after it emerged that there was not a single Black member among its voting panel. The HFPA has since said it is taking steps to diversify its membership. However, it remains to be see whether the Golden Globe Awards will hold quite as much industry clout as in the past.
