‘Battlestar Galactica’ Movie Sees Movement with New Writer Attached
There's been talk of making Glen A. Larson's 1978 sci-fi TV series Battlestar Galactica into a movie since 2009, and now there's been a major shift.
The Girl in the Spider's Web writer, Jay Basu, has "been tapped" to rewrite the screenplay, coming out of Universal, reports The Wrap exclusively. He will be taking over for Lisa Joy (Westworld), who signed on in 2016.
In addition to rounding out the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, Basu has completed the script for 2019's Charlie's Angels reboot. Also, he's working on the forthcoming sequel to Labyrinth, originally starring David Bowie.
Based on some reports, at first glance, it seemed Basu's involvement was 100 percent confirmed, but it turns out, the announcement is coming from "individuals with knowledge of the project," which could categorize it as a flat-out... still up in the air.
Either way, it's a good sign that there's some moviemaking movement.
But, with that said, The Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence is in fact signed on. As recent as February 2018, he confirmed he's still committed to bringing the sci-fi series to the big screen.
He grew up with the series and when asked by ComingSoon.net if he had a personal connection to the series, he answered, "Absolutely, 100%."

The movie is based on the original series, which ran from 1978-1979. But, some viewers may be more familiar with the 2004 remake that ran through 2009, starring Edward James Olmos, Jamie Bamber and Katee Sackhoff (originally airing on SyFy, ultimately landing on BBC America in 2011).
The story revolves around the last survivors of the human race, who live on a fleet of ships searching for a fabled planet, promising salvation, aka Earth. All the while avoiding a killer AI race, known as Cylons, who are difficult, if not impossible, to detect, because they can disguise themselves like their human counterparts.
