The nominations for the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) are in, and they're absolutely packed with talent.
Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog), Stephen Graham (Boiling Point), and Will Smith (King Richard) are among the nominees for the Leading Actor prize, while Ruth Negga (Passing), Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), and Jessie Buckley (The Lost Daughter) are all up for Supporting Actress.
Belfast stars Ciarán Hinds and Caitriona Balfe also picked up acting nominations – as did Woody Norman, a 12-year-old British actor who delivers an impeccable American accent in the acclaimed indie movie C'mon C'mon.
Denis Villeneuve's visionary sci-fi film Dune leads the way with 11 nominations, followed by Jane Campion's Western The Power of the Dog with eight, and Kenneth Branagh's semi-autobiographical drama Belfast with six.
In the performance categories, 19 of 24 nominees are receiving their first BAFTA film nomination – a sure sign that rewarding relatively unsung and up-and-coming talent was a focus this year. Surprisingly, however, there is no space for several actors considered leading Oscar contenders, including Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter), and Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick... Boom!).
This year's BAFTA winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on March 13, with Rebel Wilson serving as host. In the meantime, the BBC has a full list of nominees.
