Brian Cox to Direct and Star in 'Glenrothan,' a Movie Celebrating His Native Scotland
Brian Cox is currently turning the air blue in the new season of Succession, but he's also lined up a rather different-sounding movie project.
According to Variety, the Emmy-winning actor will direct and star in Glenrothan, a film Cox describes as an "homage" to his native Scotland.
The movie, set in a distillery town in the Scottish Highlands, will be Cox's big screen directorial debut. He previously directed a 2000 episode of Oz, the HBO drama series set in a men's prison.
Glenrothan is said to follow a pair of estranged brothers who reunite – 40 years after a serious falling out – in the village that's home to the family's whiskey distillery.
Cox, who also co-wrote the film's script, was born and raised in Dundee, around 130 miles south of the famously rugged and beautiful Scottish Highlands region.
"Glenrothan is my homage to the elements that make Scotland such an extraordinary country, where vibrancy and majesty of the land is expressed through passion and desire — balanced by the Scot’s deep-rooted humor and grasp of the absurd," he said of the project. "I want to make a film which combines all the elements, to show my own deep love for the homeland."
