Today brings exciting news for Andrew Garfield fans: the Oscar-nominated actor has signed up to play acclaimed British concert pianist James Rhodes in music biopic Instrumental.

James Marsh (The Theory of Everything) is directing the movie, which is based on Rhodes' 2015 memoir Instrumental: A Memoir of Madness, Medication and Music. Shooting is due to begin later this year, Variety reports.

It definitely sounds like a testing part for Garfield: in the book, Rhodes recalls how he was sexually abused at his all-male junior school in the U.K, which led to him suffering spinal damage as well as eating disorders and PTSD. His abuser passed away before he could be brought to court.

Rhodes later became an enormously successful concert pianist, and the first ever classical pianist to be signed to the world's largest rock record label, Warner Bros.

Garfield, who won a Tony Award last year for his performance in Angels in America, is no stranger to real-life roles. Two of his most acclaimed film appearances came when he played combat medic Desmond Doss in Hacksaw Ridge and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network.

More recently, he's also signed up to star in Mainstream, the next movie from Palo Alto director Gia Coppola, which will co-star Jason Schwartzman and Maya Hawke (Little Women).
