Casting News: 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Actress Lucy Boynton to Star in Marianne Faithfull Movie
After playing Freddie Mercury's partner Mary Austin in Bohemian Rhapsody, Lucy Boynton is eyeing up her own rock star biopic.
According to Deadline, the British-American actress is working on a movie about Marianne Faithfull that she intends to executive produce and star in.
Boynton, also known for her roles in Sir Kenneth Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express and TV's The Politician, has definitely picked a fascinating life story to delve into. Born in north London to a family with aristocratic roots in the Habsburg Dynasty, Faithfull launched a singing career as a teenager in the '60s, and scored a big hit in the U.K. and U.S. with "As Tears Go By," a folk-pop song written by the Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
She was romantically involved with Jagger for several years in the '60s, and also launched a promising acting career during this period. But in the '70s, her personal and professional lives crumbled as she battled addiction and an eating disorder. For two years, she lived homeless on the streets of Soho in London.
Faithfull later made a remarkable comeback with 1979's Broken English, which had a then-contemporary new wave sound and showcased a very different, raspier singing voice to the one she had in the '60s. It's often included on lists of the greatest albums of all time. Now 72, she's built an acclaimed recording career over the last few decades and released her most recent album, Negative Capability, last year.
There's no word yet on who might direct the movie, or whether Faithfull is involved in any way, but it's expected to start shooting in summer 2020. In the meantime, why not whet your appetite by the watching the official lyric video for "As Tears Go By?"
