Casting News: Colin Farrell is Returning to the Sci-Fi Genre with Drama 'After Yang'

Colin Farrell (Total Recall) is making his return to the sci-fi genre, set to star in the forthcoming futuristic family drama After Yangreports Deadline. The film is based on the short story Saying Goodbye to Yang written by Alexander Weinstein, and will be written and directed by Kogonado.

There aren't a ton of details about the plot, with the film's one-line description summing up the synopsis, saying the story follows a father and his daughter, who fight for to save the life of their robotic family member.

If you'd like to dig a little deeper into the background of the film, Weinstein's short story is available here, which is introduced as, "A family discovers just how attached they’ve become to their robotic helper." The story itself is referred to as "speculative fiction," meaning it could possibly happen in the not-so-far future.

Farrell has a varied filmography having starred in a mix of genres, including crimes dramas like 2003's The Recruit, romantic comedies like 2015's The Lobster and the 2016 fantasy film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, just to name a few.

In addition to film, we recently saw him in the second season of the hit TV series True Detective, which aired in 2015. We can also look for him in the 2019 production of the four-part BBC miniseries The North Water, announced last week.
