Dame Maggie Smith, Jim Broadbent, and Sally Hawkins have signed up to appear in the live-action family movie A Boy Called Christmas.

Toby Jones, Kristen Wiig, Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), Henry Lawfull (Les Misérables), Rune Temte (Captain Marvel), Indica Watson (Sherlock), and Zoe Colletti (Annie) have also joined the holiday movie's ensemble cast.

Based on a bestselling children's book by British novelist Matt Haig, A Boy Called Christmas is a reimagining of Santa Claus's origin story. It follows a young boy called Nikolas as he travels to snowy Lapland accompanied by his pet mouse and a reindeer called Blitzen in pursuit of his father, who's seeking out a mythical village where elves live.

Gil Kenan (2015's Poltergeist remake) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel). Shooting is underway now and will take place at various locations in Lapland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and London.

A Boy Called Christmas will be released on Netflix in the U.S. and in theaters in the U.K., Deadline reports.

It adds to a busy year for Smith, who's currently performing her first stage role in 12 years at London's Bridge Theatre. She's starring until May 11 in A German Life, a new one-woman play about the life of Brunhilde Pomsel, who served as personal secretary to Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels during World War One.

She'll also be seen in the upcoming Downton Abbey movie, which opens in the U.K. on September 13 and in U.S. theaters on September 20.
