Casting News: 'Doctor Who' Actress Mandip Gill to Star in Interactive Rom-Com 'Five Dates'

Doctor Who actress Mandip Gill is taking on an innovative new acting job while the U.K. remains in lockdown.

Gill, who plays companion Yasmin "Yaz" Khan in BBC America's long-running sci-fi drama, has joined the cast of Five Dates, an interactive rom-com project which will be released globally on Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo, and Steam.

According to Deadline, the project is being aimed at millennials, who will get to decide how the plot unfolds from the viewpoint of Vinny, a young single guy living in London who has just joined a dating app during lockdown.

Viewers will be able to control how Vinny interacts with five different women he meets on the app and choose which (if any) he decides to date. Gill joins a cast that includes Georgia Hirst (Vikings), Marisa Abela (Industry), Taheen Modak (The Bay), and singer-songwriter Sinead Harnett.

It's a complicated project which has more than 350 pages of script, presumably to allow for a range of different dating scenarios and outcomes. Producers have already shipped iPhones and sound equipment directly to Gill and her castmates at their respective homes so they can begin shooting today. Bring it on!
