Casting News: 'Doctor Who' Actress Michelle Gomez Joins Kaley Cuoco's Thriller Series 'The Flight Attendant'

Doctor Who favorite Michelle Gomez has landed a juicy new series regular role – or to be precise, she landed it earlier this year, but it's only just been announced.

Deadline reports that Gomez, who earned a BAFTA TV Award nomination for her performance as Missy a.k.a. The Master in Doctor Who, has been cast in Kaley Cuoco's new HBO Max thriller series The Flight Attendant.

Cuoco, who is executive producing the series as well as starring in it, plays a flight attendant named Cassie who wakes up in a strange hotel bed next to a dead man with no idea what happened. Gomez co-stars as Miranda, a tough businesswoman with anger-management issues who runs into Cassie in Bangkok – frankly, it sounds like exactly the sort of role she'll smash. Sonoya Mizuno (Devs, Beauty and the Beast) was initially cast as Miranda, but Gomez then replaced her after "the character took on a different creative direction," Deadline notes.

The series had gone into production before coronavirus halted it in March. Shooting is now due to resume in August.

Since 2018, Gomez has played the villainous Madam Satan in supernatural horror series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but Netflix announced in July that it has canceled the show. The final batch of eight episodes is due to debut later this year.

Gomez celebrated her new role on Instagram Wednesday, writing that she was "thrilled to join this team." Cuoco left a sweetly supportive reply, commenting: "Giirrrrllllll."

Bring it on!
