Casting News: 'Doctor Who' Favorite Peter Davison to Star in 'Call the Midwife' Christmas Special

Doctor Who alum Peter Davison is to guest star in Call the Midwife's festive special.

Davison, who starred as the Fifth Doctor between 1981 and 1984, will play Mr. Percival in the special, a ringleader who brings his circus to the show's east London neighborhood, Poplar, just in time for Christmas.

The show's U.K. publicity reps Ian Johnston PR shared a photo of Davison in character on Twitter.

Having been halted due to coronavirus like so many TV and movie productions, shooting on Call the Midwife's Christmas special and upcoming 10th season resumed in August. Co-creator and executive producer Heidi Thomas said at the time: "Everyone is overjoyed to be whisking the dust sheets off Nonnatus House and getting back to filming after lockdown. It is a particular thrill to be able to deliver the Christmas Special on time, just as we promised at the start of the pandemic."

"We are very much a family at Call The Midwife, and like families everywhere, we have missed each other," she added. "We will now be putting more love and energy into our work than ever and can’t wait to share series 10 with our fantastic, loyal audience."

Call the Midwife's Christmas special is expected to air in the U.K. on Christmas Day on BBC One. In the U.S., the show airs on PBS, who aired season nine earlier this year to bring American fans right up-to-date.

Meanwhile, Davison is also due to appear in Life, the upcoming Doctor Foster spin-off co-starring Alison Steadman, Adrian Lester and Victoria Hamilton.
