We’ve enjoyed Emily Mortimer in a number of projects, including Doll and Em (2013-2015) and The Newsroom (2012-2014). She’s making her return to TV, starring in the forthcoming series The New Look, reports Deadline.
It’s not just Mortimer, there are a bunch of familiar faces lined up to co-star, including John Malkovich, Claes Bang, Ben Mendelsohn, and Juliette Binoche.
The story revolves around fashion icons Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, with Mortimer portraying Chanel’s friend and muse. That is quite some heavy lifting and sounds difficult to balance both roles in another person’s life.
The series goes beyond fashion though, as it's set during WWII. With the world in chaos, the designers work to keep working. The synopsis describes what to look for, reading: “Inspired by true events and filmed exclusively in Paris, The New Look centers on the pivotal moment in the 20th Century when Paris led the world back to life through its fashion icons.”
Mendelsohn is set to portray Dior with Binoche taking on the role of Chanel.
There’s more to this story, which we look forward to seeing when the series premieres over at Apple TV+.
