Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson are to star in Dune: The Sisterhood, a prequel series set 10,000 years before the events of Dune.
According to Variety, the show's plot synopsis teases that it "follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit." It's based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
Two-time Oscar nominee Watson and Henderson (Harry Potter, Trainspotting) will play Valya and Tula Harkonnen, two sisters who "have risen to power in the Sisterhood, a secret organization of women who will go on to become the Bene Gesserit."
Diane Ademu-John (The Haunting of Bly Manor) and Alison Schapker (Altered Carbon) are co-showrunners on the HBO Max series. Denis Villeneuve, director of last year's Dune movie and its upcoming sequel Dune: Part Two, is on board as an executive producer.
