Casting News: Emma Thompson to Star in Sex-Driven Comedy 'Good Luck to You, Leo Grande'
Emma Thompson has had a long and successful career, starring in genres across the board, including drama, comedy, romance, fantasy, sci-fi and action.
She's now stepping into a new genre with the forthcoming feature Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, which is being deemed a "sex comedy," by Deadline.
Thompson is set to take on the role of Nancy Stokes, a widow who is hoping to make up for lost time. While her marriage was stable, it was stale. She feels like she's missed out... and that's where Leo Grande comes in. Grande is a sex worker, but to keep things a little more politically correct, refers to himself as a sex therapist.
Stokes hires him for a "night of bliss," according to the movie's description.
Sophie Hyde (Animals) is set to direct and will be working off an original script from Katy Brand. Brand is not one to hold back, as seen in the trailer for her BBC America sketch comedy series Katy Brand's Big Ass Show.
Hyde released a statement, expressing her excitement, saying, "I’m thrilled to be working with the tremendously funny and heartbreakingly honest Emma Thompson to explore intimacy and desire, and to put on screen a relationship that feels unexpected and delightful."
She points out how the topic relates to the current climate, with people missing human contact: "At a time when our need for each other is so vividly present, it will be a delight to create and show this connection between two people, which is funny, sexy and moving."
If you'd like to catch-up on Hyde's work, here's a peek at the trailer for Animals, which premieres in the U.S. on November 10:
Production on Leo Grande will begin in early 2021, with filming to take place in London, England.
