Gemma Whelan made her breakthrough appearance in 2012, starring in the fan favorite series Game of Thrones as Yara Greyjoy.
Her star continued to rise when she joined season three of Killing Eve as MI6 agent Carolyn Martens’ daughter Geraldine Stowton.
She’s now going from supporting actor to taking the lead in the in the forthcoming crime miniseries The Tower, which you can look for on ITV in the U.K. and BritBox in the U.S., reports ComingSoon.net.
The three-part series is based on Kate London’s debut novel, entitled Post Mortem, published in 2015.
Whelan is set to take on the role of Detective Sarah Collins. Collins is called to a crime scene where two individuals have fallen to their death from a tower block in London. It turns out the victims are a police officer and teenage girl.
According to the description, a rookie cop is still on the roof, alive but rattled, with a five-year-old boy in her care. It turns out, she was working to protect him. But, hours later, the police officer goes missing.
Collins leads the investigation as to what caused these deaths and is in search of her colleague.
In the recently released trailer, Collins makes some pertinent observations, “Two cops were on the roof… they are first on the scene, but they don’t turn on their bodycams. They don’t radio in when they arrive. Why?”
Collins seems to be the right person to be looking into this, as she’s starting off strong.
And Whelan is the right person to be playing her, as we are already hooked.
The Tower is set to premiere on November 8 in the U.K. and December 1 in the U.S.
