Casting News: Idris Elba to Fight for Survival Against Lion in Thriller Movie 'Beast'

Idris Elba has lined up a seriously roarsome new role in survival thriller Beast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming movie will be "tonally similar" to 2016's The Shallows, which saw Blake Lively being stalked by a shark. However, in this film Elba will go head-to-head with an equally deadly predator: a lion.

Baltasar Kormakur (Everest, 2 Guns) will direct from a script by Ryan Engle (Rampage), who worked from an original idea by Jaime Primak-Sullivan. Precise plot details are being kept under wraps.

As ever, the incredibly prolific Elba has several movies in the pipeline including superhero sequel The Suicide Squad, due in August 2021, and Concrete Cowboy, a horsemanship drama which premiered to positive reviews at last month's Toronto International Film Festival.

Earlier this year Elba became one of the first celebrities to reveal a coronavirus diagnosis, but he was soon back on fighting form. In August he received a BAFTA Special Award for his "exceptional career and commitment to championing diversity and new talent in the industry." We recently made him our British Icon of the Week and looked back on some of his many inspiring achievements.
