Casting News: Idris Elba to Star in Christmas Action Movie 'Stay Frosty'
Idris Elba has lined up his next project: a high-stakes action movie with a holiday backdrop.
The Luther actor will star and executive produce Stay Frosty, an action flick from Extraction director Sam Hargrave, reports Deadline.
The movie is described as a "throwback" to '80s Christmas action movies like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. Elba will play a man who somehow manages to survive a bullet to the head, then has to work out who wants to kill him and why. While tracking down the assassin, he also has to make sure he gets home for Christmas so he doesn't let down his son. Frankly, we're invested in this story on its premise alone.
Stay Frosty adds to Elba's typically packed release slate, which includes superhero sequel The Suicide Squad, Netflix Western The Harder They Fall, fantasy film Three Thousand Years of Longing with Tilda Swinton, and survival thriller Beast.
On April 25, he shared a touching tribute to wife Sabrina Elba as they celebrated their second wedding anniversary, writing on on Instagram, "I love you so much, the last year has been one of the toughest of my life and i only got through it because of you. @sabrinaelba my ride or die."
Elba revealed in March 2020 that he had been diagnosed with Covid-19, but thankfully went on to make a full recovery.
