Casting News: Jack Whitehall to Star in 'Clifford the Big Red Dog' Movie

Are you ready for even more Jack Whitehall? The British-actor comedian, who just guest-hosted The Graham Norton Show, is to star in a film adaptation of Clifford the Big Red Dog.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Whitehall has landed the "lead adult role" in the family movie based on Norman Bridwell's beloved children's books.

Darby Camp, the eight-year-old actress who plays Reese Witherspoon's younger daughter in Big Little Lies, has been cast as Emily Elizabeth, a young girl struggling to fit in at school who bonds with the titular "big red dog" when he's still a puppy. Whitehall will play her Uncle Casey, who helps her to protect Clifford when his incredible growth spurt attracts some unwanted attention from a genetics corporation.

Walt Becker (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip) is directing and shooting is due to start next month in New York City.

Clifford the Big Red Dog is another career boost for Whitehall, who already has a "key role" opposite Emily Blunt in Disney's upcoming Jungle Cruise movie. He's also appearing in the upcoming Good Omens TV series starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen, which debuts Friday on Amazon Prime.

We recently compiled a guide to Whitehall's career milestones to date, including British sitcom Fresh Meat and hosting the annual Brit Awards in London.

Meanwhile, Camp is also returning to our screens very soon–in NOS4A2, the supernatural horror series premiering Sunday at 10/9c on AMC.
