Casting News: Joanna Lumley Joins Sharon Horgan's Sitcom 'Motherland'
Joanna Lumley has signed up to appear in season three of Motherland, Sharon Horgan's acclaimed sitcom about a competitive group of middle-class mothers living in west London.
According to Deadline, Lumley's role in the series is being kept under wraps. Still, the prolific actress will presumably get to show off her rock-solid comedy chops, which have previously earned her two BAFTA TV Awards for playing hard-drinking fashion editor Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous.
She joins an ensemble cast that includes Anna Maxwell Martin (Line of Duty), Diane Morgan (After Life), Lucy Punch (A Series of Unfortunate Events), and Oliver Chris (The Office). Horgan co-created and co-writes the series, which returned for a Christmas special in December following full seasons in 2017 and 2019.
Just last week it was reported by Variety that Bridesmaids director Paul Feig and Grace and Frankie writer Julieanne Smolinski are working on a U.S. remake of Motherland. There's no word yet on casting, though, as the project is still in its early stages.
Lumley has recently appeared opposite Keeley Hawes in this year's ITV miniseries Finding Alice. She last portrayed her signature character Patsy Stone in 2016's Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.
