Some TV news isn't big, but huge: Julianne Moore is to star in a new eight-part psychological horror drama written by Stephen King and produced by J.J. Abrams.

Moore will take on the title role in Lisey's Story, an adaptation of King's 2006 novel about a widow, Lisey Landon, who starts to confront incredible repressed and forgotten memories about her husband two years after his death.

King will write all eight episodes of the adaptation for new streaming service Apple TV, says The Hollywood Reporter, while Abrams will serve as a producer through his Bad Robot Productions banner.

Moore, King, and Abrams will all serve as executive producers on the series, and the creative team is said to be on the hunt for "high-profile directors" to complete what is already looking like a real prestige TV project.

Moore previously won an Emmy for her performance as Sarah Palin in the 2012 HBO TV movie Game Change, but Lisey's Story will be her first series regular role since she appeared in the daytime soap opera As the World Turns in the late '80s. She hilariously recalled some of her memorable storylines from the long-running soap during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

Moore's latest film, Gloria Bell, opened in theaters last month. She'll next be seen in The Woman in the Window, a mystery thriller from Joe Wright which co-stars Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, and Anthony Mackie. It's due out October 4.

Meanwhile, today's news caps off a stellar few days for King. A big-screen adaptation of his novel Pet Sematary opened in theaters Friday and made a strong start at the box office with a $25m haul in North America.
