Hot off her Emmy win for Mare of Easttown, Kate Winslet has signed up for another interesting-sounding limited series.
HBO has announced that Winslet will executive produce and star in The Palace, a series about "one year within the walls of the palace of an authoritarian regime as it begins to unravel." The network's Francesca Orsi described the series as "wildly original" and "prescient."
It's being directed by Stephen Frears, whose previous credits include Sundance TV's State of the Union, AMC's Quiz and movies including The Queen, Philomena, and Florence Foster Jenkins. Will Tracy, a writer and executive producer on Succession, is the showrunner.
The Palace isn't the only limited series Winslet has in the pipeline. Earlier this month she was cast in Trust, an adaptation of Hernan Diaz’s novel about a secretary hired to ghostwrite the memoir of a financier whose version of events she doesn't entirely believe.
She is also set to co-star opposite her daughter Mia Threapleton in an episode of the female-led anthology series I Am... This will be Winslet's first live-action role on British TV since her 2005 guest appearance in Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's sitcom Extras.
