It's official: Keeley Hawes has joined the cast of Orphan Black: Echoes, AMC Networks' highly anticipated new series set in the world of Orphan Black.
As an AMC Networks press release confirms, Hawes joins previously announced cast members Krysten Ritter, Amanda Fix, and Avan Jogia in the series, which is shooting now in Toronto, Canada.
The 10-episode first season is set to premiere on AMC+ and the company’s linear networks in 2023. An official plot synopsis teases: "Set in the near future, Orphan Black: Echoes takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other's lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unraveling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal."
Hawes' character is described as "a perceptive but sensitive scientist who finds herself at odds with her own moral code when circumstances lead her to make an unthinkable choice." It sounds like another challenging role for the British actress, who's earned a trio of BAFTA nominations for her performances in Line of Duty, Bodyguard, and Mrs. Wilson. She also appeared in It's a Sin, the acclaimed miniseries set during the HIV/AIDS epidemic written by returning Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies.
Anna Fishko (Pieces of Her, Fear the Walking Dead) is serving as creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer on Orphan Black: Echoes. John Fawcett, the co-creator of the original series, is back on board as a director and executive producer.
