Keeley Hawes (Line of Duty) has been on the radar for a while now, but she really got our attention when starring in 2018’s Bodyguard, opposite Richard Madden.
She is taking the lead once again, set to star in the forthcoming BBC One miniseries Crossfire, reports RadioTimes.
The story is set at a hotel in the Canary Islands, where a gunman holds the guests hostage.
The series comes from Louise Doughty, author of Apple Tree Yard, making this her screenwriting debut.
Doughty released a statement about the project, saying, “This is a drama about a group of ordinary people caught up in an extraordinary event, a gun attack on the hotel where they are staying.”
She also expands on what to look for, in terms of plot: “In extremity, each character is faced with a set of dilemmas: and at the heart of it is Jo (Hawes), who booked the holiday and unknowingly put her family and friends and herself at risk.
Filming has begun with a release date yet to be announced.
There’s no mention of a U.S. premiere, but hopefully it heads this way sooner than later.
