Henry Cavill's time in The Witcher is coming to an end, and he's being replaced by Liam Hemsworth in the upcoming fourth season.
Cavill broke the news quite eloquently on Instagram, writing: "My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf.
"As with the greatest of literary characters," he added, "I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men."
Hemsworth was equally magnanimous in an Instagram post of his own. "Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character," he wrote. "I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world."
Fans of The Witcher won't have to bid farewell to Cavill just yet, though. He'll star as Geralt in the show's upcoming third season, due to premiere next summer, before Hemsworth takes over the role for season four. Cavill hasn't said why he's decided to depart the show, but he recently told fans we can expect to see more of him as Superman. We can also catch him in Enola Holmes 2, due on Netflix this Friday (November 4).
