Mads Mikkelsen has signed up for an epic-sounding movie set in 17th century Denmark.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film has the working title The King's Land and is based on Ida Jessen's bestselling book The Captain and Ann Barbara. Mikkelsen will play Ludwig von Kahlen, a soldier ordered by King Frederik V to conquer Jutland, a region of modern-day Denmark that was considered incredibly wild and dangerous at the time.
Fellow Dane Amanda Collin (Raised by Wolves) will co-star. The project reunites Mikkelsen with director Nikolaj Arcel, with whom he previously collaborated on the Oscar-nominated 2012 Danish film A Royal Affair
Mikkelsen said in a statement: “I am beyond excited to be working with him once again. He has an awe-inspiring vision for the film, and he and Anders Thomas have penned an amazing script. Its brutality and tenderness deeply moved me when I first read it. It’s an important and fascinating chapter in Danish history about to be adapted for the screen and carrying topics still relevant to this very day. Besides, it is a thrilling story and quite an adventure."
Shooting is due to start in September in Germany, Czech Republic, and of course Denmark.
