Casting News: Natalie Portman Joins Jude Law in Coming-of-Age Film 'Vox Lux'
We've known since last year that Jude Law will star in the forthcoming film Vox Lux. Originally, Rooney Mara (Carol) was set to star opposite him, as a budding pop star... but now, there's been a casting shift.
Over the weekend, it was announced that Black Swan star Natalie Portman will be stepping in for Mara. There's no talk of why Portman is replacing Mara, but lately, one thing we can count on: plans change.
The film kicks off in 1999, spanning 15 years, up to the movie's present day. The official description for Vox Lux — which is Latin for "voice" and "light" — is brief, but gives us an idea of what to expect: "Vox Lux follows the rise of Celeste (Portman) from the ashes of a major national tragedy to pop superstardom. The film spans 15 years and traces important cultural moments through the singer’s eye, starting in 1999 and ending in the present day."
Writer-director Brady Corbert's film will mean a reunion for Portman and Law, who worked together on 2003's Cold Mountain, 2004's Closer and 2007's My Blueberry Nights.

Corbert is an actor-turned-director, having starred in TV series like 24 in 2006 and Olive Kitteridge in 2014. His directorial debut of a feature film, The Childhood of a Leader, premiered in 2015:

A release date for Vox Lux is yet to be confirmed, but principal photography will begin this February.
You can look for Portman in the sci-fi thriller Annihilation, hitting theaters next month (February 23). Law has completed filming on Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, taking on the role of Albus Dumbledore, also out this year (November 1).
Sometimes change can be good. Are you keen to see these two work together again?
