Nicholas Lyndhurst has been cast opposite Kelsey Grammer in the upcoming Frasier sequel series.

According to Variety, the British sitcom legend will play Alan Cornwall, an old college pal of Grammer's title character who is now a professor. Lyndhurst and Grammer also have history, having starred together in the stage musical Man of La Mancha at the London Coliseum in 2019.

Paramount+'s description for Lyndhurst's character teases: "British, boozy and larger than life, Alan has an intellect on par with Frasier’s – if only he ever felt like using it. Alan’s mischievous streak might be just what Frasier could use to shake up his routine, while Frasier's thoughtful guidance might help Alan find some of the direction he's been missing in his own life."

The Frasier sequel series will follow Grammer's persnickety radio psychiatrist as he embarks on a new life in a different city. The only other confirmed cast member is Jack Cutmore-Scott (Deception, Tenet), who is playing Frasier's son, Freddy Crane.

Lyndhurst, 61, is best known for his role as upwardly mobile Rodney Trotter in Only Fools and Horses, one of the most popular British sitcoms ever. He also starred in the hit time-traveling sitcom Goodnight Sweetheart and the BBC police procedural series New Tricks. You can relive a classic Only Fools and Horses moment below.
