Casting News: Olivia Colman and Anthony Hopkins to Star in 'The Father'

Olivia Colman was already signed onto The Crown when she won the 2019 Best Actress Oscar for The Favourite. With that being said, there can be a lot of pressure for an actor when deciding on a follow-up role to an Oscar-winning performance.

And what has Colman decided on? Or, in this case, shall we say... who?? She's teaming up with fellow Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins for the film adaptation of Florian Zeller's play The Father, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

While there's no exact formula to ensure success, this casting combo, and choice of project, seems very promising.

Hopkins and Colman will take on the roles of father and daughter. A man in his 80s, he lives a highly independent lifestyle, but finds himself confused at times. His daughter wants to help him as he ages, which he refuses, leaving her just as confused.

This is a universal story, as we all get older, and the difficulties are not necessarily predictable. Colman's character is unsure how to move forward.

The original play was written in 2012, based in Paris, France. Zeller directed the stage performance and is also signed on to direct the forthcoming film. With the project just being announced, there's no start date as of yet.
