Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo are teaming up for a new crime thriller series called Criminal Record.
The eight-episode series has been ordered by Apple TV+, which describes it as a "powerful, character-driven thriller set in the heart of contemporary London." It's said to explore issues including "race, institutional failure, and the quest to find common ground in a polarized Britain."
Doctor Who's Capaldi and The Good Wife alum Jumbo will play two detectives who lock horns over a historic murder conviction. This conflict reflects the fact they are at very different stages in their respective careers: whereas Capaldi's DCI Daniel Hegarty is a veteran cop who is keen to preserve his legacy, Jumbo's DS June Lenker is still very much climbing the ladder.
Criminal Record is written by Paul Rutman, who previously developed Ann Cleeves' series of crime novels following DCI Vera Stanhope into the hit drama series Vera with Brenda Blethyn. It's shooting now on location in London.
Why don't we time travel back to 2017 when Capaldi starred as the Doctor:
