Casting News: Robert Pattinson In Talks To Star in Next Movie from 'Parasite' Director Bong Joon Ho
Anyone for a dream movie duo? Robert Pattinson is poised to team up with Oscar-winning Parasite director Boon Joon-ho.
According to Deadline, Bong is "in talks" to write and direct a film based on Edward Ashton's upcoming novel Mickey7, with Pattinson "in talks" to star. Macmillan Publishers describes the book, due February, as a "high concept science fiction thriller, in which Mickey7, an 'expendable,' refuses to let his replacement clone Mickey8 take his place."
The story is set on an ice world called Niflheim that humans are trying to colonize. The book's synopsis teases: "The atmosphere is unsuitable for humans, food is in short supply, and terraforming is going poorly. The native species are growing curious about their new neighbors, and that curiosity has Commander Marshall very afraid. Ultimately, the survival of both lifeforms will come down to Mickey7."
It's worth bearing in mind, of course, that Bong's interpretation of the source material could well deviate from this synopsis. Still, it definitely sounds like a rich seam of storytelling for he and Pattinson to explore.
The currently untitled film will be Bong's follow-up to 2019's Parasite, for which he won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars. Deadline reports that "every A-lister in their 30s" was chasing this role in his movie, so it's certainly a coup for Pattinson.
In the meantime, Pattinson has a little film called The Batman to promote – it's due in theaters March 4.
