Samantha Morton is heading to the English countryside for her latest TV role. Deadline reports that she has signed up to star in The Burning Girls, a thriller series set in a village with a "dark and turbulent" history.
Bridgerton actress Ruby Stokes will co-star in the series, which is based on a novel by C.J. Tudor. Morton's character, Reverend Jack Brooks, is a lone parent who's said to be "haunted" by her husband's death and a tragedy from her previous church. Stokes will portray her strong-willed teenage daughter, who is very much her own person.
They arrive in the village of Chapel Croft hoping for a fresh start, but their new community's tapestry of "conspiracies and secrets" quickly gets in the way.
Shooting on the series, which is in the works at Paramount+, is starting this week. The cast also includes Conrad Khan (Peaky Blinders), Rupert Graves (Sherlock), Elodie Grace Orkin (Stranger Things) and Mollie Holder (Sanditon).
Morton recently reprised her role as Alpha in an episode of Tales of the Walking Dead, AMC's new anthology series set in the world of The Walking Dead. She's also set to star as Catherine de' Medici in The Serpent Queen, a historical drama series premiering September 11 on Starz.
