Sanjeev Bhaskar is to play the title character in Inspector Singh Investigates, a new crime drama series based on Shamini Flint's novels of the same name.
The three-part series has been commissioned by BritBox International and will be directed by Suri Krishnamma, whose previous credits include The Canterville Ghost, Emmerdale, and Coronation Street.
We can glean a little about Inspector Singh from a character description that appears on the website of the book's U.S. publishers, Macmillan. According to Macmillan, "Inspector Singh is the finest detective in the Singapore police department (in his opinion anyway). Unfortunately, his superiors, unimpressed with his penchant for long lunches and cold beers, look for every excuse to ship him away. As a consequence our intrepid copper finds himself embroiled in murder investigations all over Asia."
It definitely sounds like a fun premise for a detective series, though obviously we'll have to wait and see whether the adaptation is super-faithful or not. Bhaskar already leads another crime drama series, the ITV/PBS Masterpiece hit Unforgotten, which follows his character DI Sunny Khan as he investigates cold case murders. The upcoming fifth season, expected in 2023, will be the first without Nicola Walker's co-lead character DCI Cassie Stuart. Instead, Bhaskar's Sunny will be joined by a new character played by Being Human alum Sinéad Keenan.
