Catherine Tate has been keeping busy. She has created and written a new series, entitled Queen of Oz, in which she will also take the lead, reports BBC Media Centre.
The six-part series centers on Princess Georgiana, played by Tate. She's considered the troublemaker of a British Royal Family. Her hard-partying ways have caught up with her and it results in a “PR disaster.” She’s found herself smack in the middle of a scandal and splashed across the tabloids.
Her father, the King, decides to give up his throne in support of his daughter.
According to the official description, “It is hoped that giving her some real responsibility will finally be the making of her, and if it isn’t, at least shipping her off keeps her 10,000 miles away from London.”
“Shipping her off” is referring to her going to Australia, hence the name of the series, i.e. “Oz.” The description goes on to say, “Accompanied by a useless entourage, Queen Georgiana of Australia goes kicking and screaming to a country she has zero interest in beyond the Hemsworth Brothers.”
The mention of tabloids and the Hemsworth Brothers tells us this is set in modern day.
We can’t get enough of Catherine Tate and luckily for us (and viewers), we’ll be seeing more of her in 2023, as she’s set to return to Doctor Who.
In the meantime, we’ll leave you with this, one of our favorite clips of her:
The start date for Queen of Oz has yet to be announced, but it gives us something to mull over.
