Colin Firth has been a regular on Anglophenia for a while now. And just recently he's popped up on the blog, set to star in the forthcoming crime series The Staircase and the feature film New York Will Eat You Alive.
He's such a versatile actor, and now we can also look for him in the war drama Operation Mincemeat, which will be released in the U.K. on January 7, reports Deadline Hollywood. The U.S. premiere date has yet to be announced, but you can look for it over at Netflix once available.
Set during World War II, the story revolves around two members of British intelligence, who come up with a plan to deceive German troops. The scheme consists of obtaining a corpse, dressing him as an officer and planting misleading information on the body for their enemies to find and believe to be a true plan.
Firth is set to portray real-life officer Ewen Montagu, who co-planned Operation Mincemeat.
Director John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) has completed filming on the movie. You can also look for Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen, Penelope Wilton, Johnny Flynn, Jason Isaacs and Mark Gatiss.
If this story sounds familiar to you, you may be thinking of 1956's The Man Who Never Was, based on Montagu's writing:
