Dame Judi Dench has given an update on her deteriorating eyesight, but says it won't stop her from acting.
As The Independent reports, the much-loved actress broaches the topic in an upcoming episode of the BBC series Louis Theroux Interviews. “I don’t want to retire. I’m not doing anything much at the moment because I can’t see," she says.
When asked by Theroux how bad her eyesight is, Dench replies: “Bad. Bad enough. Bad enough in that you’re quite fuzzy. You’re just a tad fuzzy."
She also speaks about adapting the way she learns lines now that she can no longer rely on looking at a script.
“I’ve got to teach myself a new way of learning,” she says. "I've realized that I need to know where it is on the page. I’ll teach myself a way. I know I will, as long as I don’t trip over doing it."
Dench, 87, earned her eighth Oscar nomination earlier this year for her performance in Kenneth Branagh's Belfast. Her latest film Allelujah, a hospital-based drama co-starring Jennifer Saunders and Russell Tovey, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
