Dan Stevens and Harrison Ford together in one place? Hubbida, hubbida.

OK, both leading men are definite heartthrobs, but putting aesthetics aside, their combined acting strengths gives some serious oomph to the forthcoming film Call of the Wild, an adaptation of Jack London's 1903 novel by the same name.

Ford's involvement in the film was announced earlier this month, and we learned that he'll take on the role of John Thornton. Thornton is a 19th century prospector on the hunt for gold in Yukon, Canada. The original story, set during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush, is told from the perspective of a sled dog named Buck.

It hasn't yet been announced what role Stevens will play, but... waitaminute, waitaminute, will he be the voice of Buck? We were really hoping to see him on-screen. Hearing his voice is great and all, but it seems like such a waste of his "talents."

That said, Buck is the star of the film, so, the character is nothing to sneeze at. He is the beloved pet of a Californian family, until he is stolen and forced into labor in Alaska. He's then sold to Canadian owners, who train him to work as a sled dog. Buck and the other sled dogs are treated poorly, and that's where Thornton enters the picture.

While Thornton's agenda is finding gold, he takes a break from his own ambitions to do right by Buck.

London's novel was on the short side at only 232 pages, but was hugely popular. There have been a number of on-screen adaptations, including the 1935 film starring Clark Gable and Loretta Young:

There was also the 1972 film, with Charlton Heston in the lead, which you can stream via Amazon Prime. 

If Stevens doesn't end up lending his voice to Buck, there are a number of human parts for him to step into. But, just to warn you, that means he'll likely play a baddie. The rest of the cast is mostly made up of criminals who illegally trap and sell the dogs.

We've seen Stevens take on a range of roles, including Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey (2010-2012), a not-so-nice visitor in 2014's The Guest and the misunderstood prince in 2017's Beauty and the Beast. He's currently starring in the sci-fi thriller series Legion (2017-2019).
