Daniel Craig starred in the 2019 whodunit Knives Out as detective Benoit Blanc. He’s completed filming on the 2022 sequel, entitled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
Craig had a catch-up with Empire Online, talking about returning to reprise the role. He starts off by saying, “How the f**k do we take something that caught people’s imagination and made them talk about murder mysteries, and do it again without it becoming a pastiche of itself?”
He goes on to answer his own question, using Bond as a reference point: “I’ve spent the past 15 years of my life trying to do that in a franchise, so I’m not afraid of it. If you’ve got the right people in the room and the right talent, then you can do it. Rian’s (Johnson) a genius writer and doesn’t want to repeat [himself].”
We like where he’s going with this. It’s not all on him, of course, there’s someone driving the ship, with Johnson writing and directing.
To round out the conversation, Craig keeps the viewers in mind, saying, “Neither do we want to let people down; we want audiences to enjoy the world that we created in the first one and believe in this one.”
We’re seeing a new side to Craig, a very thoughtful and poignant one.
You can look for the premiere of Glass Onion over at Netflix on December 23.
Do you think this is a “reinvented” Daniel Craig?
