This is not a drill: David Tennant and Michael Sheen are returning for a third season of their lockdown hit Staged.
British network ITV has announced that a new batch of episodes will arrive on BritBox U.K. a week today (November 24). Once again, the two actors will be joined by their respective partners Georgia Tennant and Anna Lundberg.
There's no word yet on when (or where) season three will land in the U.S., but it's worth noting that the show's original stateside home was Hulu. The first season premiered in June 2020 and the second followed in January 2021.
According to ITV's plot synopsis, the new season will begin with Tennant and Sheen navigating post-Covid life rather more successfully than their former collaborator, the theater director Simon Evans.
"They have moved on from lockdown and returned to their everyday working life, while Simon's career remains stagnant," the synopsis teases. "His phone does ring, but only to ask if he can get David and Michael back together; and they’ve made it clear they want nothing more to do with him. But Christmas is approaching, and Simon hopes the warmth of the season might soften them to the idea of a radio version of a Christmas classic…but that’s as far as Simon’s plan has got!"
There's certainly no doubt that Tennant is keeping busy as ever. Last month saw his surprise appearance in the Doctor Who special "The Power of the Doctor," which premiered on BBC America. And he's also starring in the upcoming four-part miniseries Litvinenko, in which he plays the poisoned former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko.
